Solidarity forever

A week before the New Zealand election poll, which returned two candidates from the Alliance, we received a letter from Lyndsay McAteer, administrative assistant of the NewLabour Party, one of the parties that make up the Alliance. It read in part:

"Thank you for the great coverage of the Alliance in Green Left Weekly. I have just been reading your report on our campaign opening in the October 20 issue. I know that our Australian comrades will be with us in spirit come November 6."

Green Left Weekly was indeed with the Alliance in spirit on November 6. In the same way, Green Left is there in spirit with those fighting for progressive causes right around the world.

Green Left Weekly stands for open-handed internationalism and solidarity. The majority of our international correspondents are not professional journalists. They do not fly into a "trouble spot", get a story and leave again. Mostly they are involved in progressive struggles, and write of their experience.

Green Left Weekly plays a role of building awareness and fostering solidarity in Australia. Around struggles as far removed as Bouganville and Ireland, it presents the views of those who are working for their own liberation. We hope to influence our readers to give these struggles their support, in whatever way they are able.

Green Left Weekly is written by and for those in struggle against oppression and injustice. It maintains the fundamental principle: Solidarity forever! Green Left Weekly — it's your newspaper.
