At a 100-strong October 26 Your Rights at Work election forum, Sue Cory, Greens candidate for the federal seat of Leichhardt, spelt out her party's policies supporting the rights of workers to organise and take industrial action, in contrast to those of the ALP, which would maintain the existing anti-worker laws introduced by the Howard government.

Independent candidate Norman Miller, an Aboriginal artist and pastor, has put forward a broad progressive platform. Local doctor Damien Byrnes has emphasised his stance as an independent candidate with progressive policies.

Socialist Alliance members in Cairns, who are campaigning for a vote for the Queensland Senate ticket of Indigenous activist Sam Watson, suggest a vote for the Greens with progressive preferencing through to the ALP, before putting the Liberals, Nationals and Family First last.
