SAMOA: Rally supports public hospital doctors

Issue

At least 600 people rallied on November 25 in support of 25 doctors who resigned from the public health system on November 16 after striking for more than two months. The doctors resigned when Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi declared they must end their strike or be fired. The strike was in demand of better wages and conditions, in particular higher entry salaries for new doctors, which the government refused to grant. Protesters presented a petition to a government minister.
