Rock against the FTA

November 17, 1993
Issue

At 8pm on August 25 at Sydney's Annandale Hotel, a line-up of Australian bands will take to the stage to showcase what may be under threat if the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement proceeds. Ten per cent of the $8 ticket price will be donated to organisations campaigning against the FTA.

The night will feature sublime acoustic and pop music, punk, electronic wizardry, hard-rock and funk. Performers include Night-hour, Wons, Urban Guerrillas, Joshua, Talk About FTA and Andorra.

The proposed FTA includes a provision that local content regulations for radio remain static at ensuring 25% Australian content. More importantly, it fails to allow for Australian content laws on new media, such as pay TV, pay radio and internet broadcasting.
