Refugee activists outside the Sydney Insitute.

The dishonorable Minister for Home Affairs, Immigration and Border Protection was invited to speak to the right wing “think tank” Gerard Henderson’s Sydney Institute on May 16. A group of determined refugee activists turned up to greet Dutton when he arrived.

Activists spoke and chanted about Dutton's lies, racism and double standards: from his calls to favour white South African farmers, to his accusations that black African Commonwealth Games athletes are "gaming the system", his lies about the people on Manus Island and Nauru, his calls to cut migration due to a lack of government services, to the budget's further restrictions on refugees’ access to social security and job seeker services.

Activists also performed a version of Pink Floyd's classic Another Brick in the Wall:

"We don't need no Peter Dutton
We don’t need no border control
No double standards with South African farmers
Dutton leave refugees alone
Hey! Peter! Let refugees come here
All in all you’re just a racist Queensland cop
All in all you’re just another prick with a drawl."

The refugee rights movement has vowed to hound Dutton to the next federal election, when hopefully he will be thrown out on his [potato] ear.
