Poem: Behind the Wire

Issue

Behind the wire
dreams expire
strangled and
congealed in the
mire of choked lives
and hopes and dreams.

Behind the wire
dead dreams walk
seeking release
from all care
in the drowning sea
of racism's bile.

Behind the wire
the innocents shuffle,
sad refuge they have found
from life's storms
Caged behind the wire
they ask why?
