The powers-that-be are seeking to silence the anti-Zionist, anti-capitalist, anti-war industry justice movement. Britain has proscribed Palestine Action. The United States government is seeking to deem any criticism of Israel as an act of antisemitism.
In Naarm/Melbourne and Gadigal Country, changes in protest laws are designed to stifle debate and dissent; NSW police recently brutally attacked peaceful protesters in Belmore.
However, this will not deter those who support justice for Palestine from condemning the genocide and demanding an end to the profiteering by the weapons industry and big business.
Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian Territories, has revealed in her latest report just how war helps weapons’ manufacturers make billions from genocide.
Gathering on street corners and public footpaths in the Gadigal Country CBD, small groups of activists waving the Palestinian flag have been engaging people in conversation, talking about the big issues. It is a largely spontaneous action, driven by the need to break the silence of complicity while governments keep supporting and enabling Israel’s war crimes in our name.
“A Flag on Every Corner”, an initiative from Vivienne and Ibrahim, has attracted activists from many justice groups who have spread out along George Street from Town Hall to Circular Quay.
The action has taken place twice on weekends when the mass rallies are not scheduled. It sends a message of hope — speaking to people about why the government does not speak for us — and it sends a message to those suffering under Israeli-US state terrorism that we will not stop until Palestine is free.
