National Textiles workers paid

After nearly nine weeks on the picket lines, 340 workers sacked from the National Textiles plant at Rutherford near Newcastle have been paid $11 million in wages, annual leave, pay in lieu and redundancy. Some workers received payments of $115,000.

The picket lines had been maintained to prevent the administrators from stripping the company of its assets. This victory is expected to boost the confidence of other laid-off workers that they can win their full entitlements when their bosses close up shop.
