HOBART — The Socialist Alliance has announced what it describes as "the most ambitions socialist campaign ever for a Tasmanian state election". The Tasmanian Labor government has called an early election for July 20.

"We will be running six socialist candidates across three seats. This is unprecedented as far as we are aware, even going back to the days when the old Communist Party stood candidates", Alex Bainbridge said.

Bainbridge, a secondary school teacher, will be standing in the seat of Denison. Refugees' right activist Shua Garfield will also stand in Denison.

In Franklin, Glenn Shields, a campaigner against Southwood woodchip mill, and Brian Millar, a worker at the K&D timber yard, will represent the Socialist Alliance.

In Bass, Kamala Emanuel, a doctor who specialises in family planning and Aboriginal health, will be standing with Sonja Ostroman, a pro-choice activist.

If you would like to help the Socialist Alliance campaign, phone Alex Bainbridge on 413 976 638, Glenn Shields on 6266 4100 or Kamala Emanuel on 0417 319 662.
