Making history together

Issue

SYDNEY — More than 240 people attended the Australia Cuba Friendship Society's largest solidarity dinner in several years on April 2. The theme was "Venezuela and Cuba making history together".

Nick Rawson, an ACFS organiser, said the turnout represented "people's hope not only in political developments in Latin America but that those processes will spread throughout the world".

Venezuela's charge d'affaires, Nelson Davila, addressed the dinner, along with the Cuban Consul General, Nelida Hernandez Carmona and Peter Ross from the University of NSW's Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies. Davila called on everyone to join the international day of action in solidarity with Venezuela outside the US consulate in Sydney on May 20.
