Looking out: Not true!

Issue

“James Watson, co-discoverer of DNA, dumbfounded many at a guest lecture when he advanced his theory about a link between skin color and sex drive.” — Atlanta Journal-Constitution, November 25, 2000.

My attention was caught recently by Michelle Locke's article “Scientist's talk brings blushes: Nobel winner discusses sex, sun”, from which the quote above is taken.

James Watson, heretofore, has not been a J.B. Stoner or David Duke (KKK leader) kind of guy. The man is a Nobel laureate who rightfully claims half the credit for the discovery of DNA many years ago. So then, you would think that his new theory would spring from a tested and retested body of good science. It does not.

I am fearful of such talk. Taken to its logical conclusion Watson's theory suggest that one's sexual prowess grow stronger as one's skin grows darker. As an African-American male, that truly vain part of me is tempted to listen, but if I listen to Watson's talk I would have to agree with Stoner and Duke, both of whom think that whites are superior to blacks — and, of course, that simply is not true!
