  • December 13-14, Brussels, Belgium: European Trade Union Confederation mobilises 100,000 trade unionists; global justice demonstration of 25,000;

  • December 19, Argentina: Mass demonstrations against the government's neo-liberal policies begin, which brought down four successive presidents;

  • January 31-February 4: Demonstrations organised against the World Economic Forum meeting in New York City, under the slogans "Stop the World Economic Forum! Rebuild New York, rebuild the world for people not profit!"
