IRAN: Bus drivers released, protests continue

Issue

Five bus drivers from the executive board of the Tehran bus drivers' union and metalworker Sattar Amini were released from jail on March 18 and 19. Yet the union's leader Mansoor Ossanlou, as well as auto worker Afshin Bahrami, are still being detained. Ossanlou has been imprisoned since December 22 and hundreds of workers were arrested for organising a strike on January 28 demanding his release as well as pay increases and the introduction of collective bargaining. The workers have been locked out without pay for more than six weeks and hundreds are now being systematically dismissed. Send protest letters to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at <dr-ahmadinejad@president.ir>.
