I'll be the one

Issue

Well-known Darwin performer, artist and Larrakia elder June Mills is releasing her debut album I'll be the One in October. This CD is a wonderful musical anthology, full of beauty and surprises with lines, melodies and riffs that stay long in the memory. The songs include prayers to friendship, homage to her country and beloved family and elders, as well as commentary on the state of world affairs.

June Mills is not only a musician and singer, but has also always been a fighter for social justice, human rights and environmental issues.

The songs are all serious, yet there is humour and a positive twist in most of them. As June writes about "Alone Again" in her extensive notes to songs in the CD liner, "This is not a sad song. While circumstances that lead up to us being alone may or may not be painful, it can be the most liberating time of our life. I sing this song with a smile in my heart."

June Mills, along with special guests, will launch I'll Be The One at a concert on Saturday 29 October at the Studio Theatre of Darwin Entertainment Centre, 93 Mitchell Street. Doors open at 7.30pm. Pre-purchased tickets: $20 concession, $22.50 full price; Tickets at the door: $22.50 concession, $25 full price. Phone (08) 8980 3333 or (08) 8981 1995.
