Greenslopes picket

By John Nebauer

BRISBANE — About 40 people attended a picket outside the Greenslopes Repatriation Hospital on April 16 to protest against plans to close parts of the facility and privatise the remainder.

The picket was organised by the Queensland Public Health Services Coalition. Coalition spokesperson Bruce Lillis told Green Left Weekly that the privatisation would seriously affect the quality of care.

He said the plan has three phases. "Phase one involves the separation of veteran and general public care. The latter would be privatised under phase 2. Phase three involves the closure of the veterans facility and its eventual sale."

The rally also attracted the Labor federal member for Moreton, Garrie Gibson, who attended the picket to "express his concerns" with the state government's plans.
