GLW: Top Australian political site

January 1, 1991
Issue

Two web site-ranking organisations have now confirmed that Green Left Weekly's web site is the most popular Australian political site! The latest ranking is available on the web site of PCAuthority magazine: < http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Index.asp?PageType=GeneralList&CA HREF="mailto:atID=28"><atID=28>.

This ranking is based on the total number of visits, as measured by Hitwise Australia. Alexa rankings, which use a combination of both visits and page views, give Green Left Weekly a world web site ranking of 65,114, way ahead of the next Australian political site, Labornet, at 90,854.

Hitwise explains its methodology at <http://www.hitwise.com/ss/methodology.html#0>. Its ranking for top Australian political sites is based on Australian visitors to the site, discounting international users.

That makes our top ranking even more remarkable, given that the GLW site log indicates that the majority of web readers of Green Left Weekly are probably international visitors.

Green Left Weekly readers should spread this information far and wide. It's something we are extremely proud of.

You can help us reach out even further. Mention GLW and our web site to friends. Ask organisations to put a link to GLW on their sites. Encourage educational institutions to use the GLW site as a regular site to search for information, especially in social sciences or current affairs courses.

However, also remember that our free web site isn't free! It costs us a lot to provide all these resources on the web free — to produce GLW, to sustain the staff, to pay for the web site.

So please dig deep into your pockets to make sure we continue providing an alternative to the corporate media barons, and an answer to the warmongers and bosses. (Details of how to donate are on page 18.)

Consider taking out a subscription to Green Left Weekly: it means you get every issue in an easy to read format. Our subscribers are our firmest base of supporters: their commitment ensures that we can keep producing Australia's most incisive newspaper.
