Ghost of Abu Ghraib haunts Halliburton

Issue

James Caulfield, Canberra

The Socialist Alliance launched its election campaign for the seat of Fraser outside the offices of Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root on September 16. The alliance's candidate, James Vassilopoulos, was interviewed by local television station WINTV.

"From Indonesia to Nigeria, from Burma to Iraq, Halliburton has done business with many dictators. We are launching our campaign here to call for the troops to come home from Iraq, and to draw the links between war and big business", said Vassilopoulos.

"It's a disgrace that KBR is renting its office from the ALP. I am issuing a personal challenge to Bob McMullan, the sitting member for Fraser, to kick out KBR from the ALP offices. We are also calling for a ban on KBR receiving any contracts in the ACT. KBR is currently involved in the destruction of the O'Connor Ridge."
