Gaza bombed by Israel

Issue

"At least 11 people have been injured by Israeli air strikes targeting Gaza's airport, Palestinian officials say", BBC News reported on March 20.

This was the second straight night of Israeli attacks on Gaza. BBC News said Israel acknowledged the strike, claiming it was targeted at Palestinian militants. The strike came after a makeshift rocket fired from Gaza killed a farm worker inside Israel.

Responsibility for firing the rocket was claimed by a small Palestinian faction. Israel holds the Hamas-led government in Gaza responsible for any rockets fired and imposes collective punishment on the entire 1.5 million Palestinians living in the territory.

Gaza has been subjected to a crippling siege imposed by Israel since 2006. The territory has not recovered from the destruction wrought by Israel's December 27, 2008-January 18, 2009 military assault that killed more than 1400 civilians.
