Freedom Rage for Indonesian political prisoners

By Arun Pradhan

PERTH — A benefit gig on November 7 will launch a range of activities here in support of democracy in Indonesia and independence for East Timor.

The Freedom Rage, to be held at the Ozone Bar and organised by Green Left Weekly, will feature well-known Perth bands such as Spank and Humbug. Other bands donating their time are Axolotl, Last Found and Freud's Pillow. The gig will raise funds for Indonesia's political prisoners.

Edwin Gozal, an Indonesian pro-democracy activist currently on tour, will arrive in Perth the same day. As well as holding discussions with community groups, he will speak at a public meeting at the University of WA on November 17, organised by Resistance and Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor.

A Dili massacre commemoration rally, organised by a broad alliance of groups, will be held at Fremantle on November 16, and Friends of East Timor are holding a film night on November 12. For more information telephone (08) 227 7367 or see the listings on page 23.
