Forum on terror laws

PERTH — On November 5, 400 people attended a forum at the University of Western Australia on the Howard government's new anti-terrorism legislation, now before the federal parliament.

Greens Senator Rachel Siewert gave an impassioned speech in which she condemned the government's attacks on civil liberties.

Federal Labor MHR Carmen Lawrence said she'd cross the floor in protest at the proposed laws. "We're removing rights that it's claimed we are defending from terrorists and terrorist attacks", she said.
