Failing environment test

BRISBANE — It was revealed at last month's state budget estimates hearing that only one of Queensland's 54 senior public service executives uses an environmentally friendly vehicle. Although the Environmental Protection Authority operates 21 of the 85 vehicles in the state's vehicle fleet — Toyota Prius hybrid petrol-electric cars worth nearly $40,000 — the only EPA senior executive to drive one was the Rockhampton office manager.

Recent research shows that most Queensland public servants used taxis, rather than public transport, for work-related travel in metropolitan areas, and most do not use ethanol-blended fuel in their work vehicles.
