SYDNEY — Thirty people attended a forum organised by the Parramatta Peace Group on July 29 on the theme of "Iran and the myth of a nuclear threat". The keynote speaker, Greens Senator Kerry Nettle, restated the Greens' opposition to nuclear energy anywhere in the world, but argued that genuine steps toward nuclear disarmament should begin with the United States.

Nettle stated the Green's opposition to Australian support for Israel's bombing of Lebanon, particularly its supplying Israel with weapons. She also stated her personal opposition to the deployment of any intervention force, and called for a just peace involving the formation of a Palestinian state. The forum was also addressed by John Hallam from Friends of the Earth and Tara Povey, an Iranian woman.
