Issue

A new pharmaceutical product to treat cancer, LeokoCIM, has received successful preliminary results in 24 hospitals throughout Cuba, reported the Prensa Latina news service on September 5. Trials will conclude at the end of the year and patents for the drug have been registered in eight countries. LeokoCIM increases the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatment and reduces the risks of bacterial infections in patients with malignant tumours. The drug will substitute a similar US version called Neupogen, which is scarcely available in Cuba due to the US blockade and is very expensive in other countries.
