Three US broadcast networks have rejected an advertisement from the United Church of Christ, deeming it too controversial. The ad is designed to advertise the church's welcoming policy, particularly towards gay men and lesbians. It depicts two bouncers in front of a church, who turn people away, including two men holding hands. A voiceover states,"Jesus did not turn people away, and neither do we". In a letter to the USS, network CBS said: "Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples ... and the fact that the Executive Branch has recently proposed a constitutional amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast". CBS broadcast an ad during last year's Superbowl that suggested casual marijuana users support terrorism.
