Movie matinee: The Stars Look Down (1939) — Set in a bleak coalmining town in northern England, Carol Reed's superb drama focuses on the local miners, working in dangerous conditions. SBS, Sunday, September 20, 12.30pm.

The Battle Over Citizen Kane — Combining rare archive material and interviews with insiders, this documentary tells the story of Orson Welles' struggle with the newspaper tycoon Randolph Hearst over Welles' famous film. ABC-TV, Sunday, September 20, 1.30pm.

Mosley — The first in a four-part drama exploring the life and times of British fascist leader, Sir Oswald Mosley. Mosley begins his rightward shift in the British Labour Party, moves to the Conservatives, then becomes an ardent admirer of Hitler. ABC-TV, Sunday, September 20, 8.30pm.

Disaster — In the past 10 years, 49 bulk carriers have sunk — probably because of structural failure. The loss of the 26,000 tonne Christinaki in the storm-tossed Atlantic in February 1994 highlights the problem of shipowners failing to maintain the sea-worthiness of merchant ships. SBS, Monday, September 21, 7.30pm.

Movie: The Rat Saviour (1976) — Set in a central European town between the two world wars as fascism begins to emerge, Krsto Papic's film focuses on an impoverished writer who comes across rats which are able to assume human shape in order to infiltrate its political structures. From Croatia. SBS, Tuesday, September 22, 1.10am.

In Security — Over the past 20 years, the private security business has become a billion-dollar industry. In Canada, security guards outnumber the public police by almost four to one, while in the US the ratio is a whopping eight to one. This program gives viewers unprecedented access to Intelligarde, Canada's most aggressive private police force. The camera follows Intelligarde officers on patrol in the richest, poorest and toughest parts of Toronto. SBS, Tuesday, September 22, 8pm.

Skin Deep: The Science of Race — Presented by David Suzuki, this program takes us on a journey beneath the surface of skin. Societies around the world place great significance on skin colour, but is there any scientific basis for the trauma and prejudice these perceived differences have generated? A variety of experts discuss the origins of racial intolerance and systems of exploitation, as well as the biological and cultural aspects of racism. SBS, Wednesday, September 23, 4pm.

Movie: Buenos Aires Vice Versa (1995) — Damian and Daniela, whose parents disappeared during the military dictatorship in Argentina, look for answers to their parents' fate. SBS, Wednesday, September 23, 9.30pm.
