ADELAIDE — A picket on Remembrance Day, November 11, by the Bougainville Action Group highlighted the need to remember the plight of the Bougainvilleans and to support their struggle against the PNG military, aided and abetted by the Australian government.

  • Campaign for an Independent East Timor (CIET) held a rally and wreath-laying ceremony of some 300 people on November 12 to commemorate the second anniversary of the Santa Cruz massacre. "The purpose of the event is to commemorate those Timorese who died not only at Santa Cruz, but also the 200,000 who have died since the brutal occupation of their country by the Japanese military and the 40,000 for supporting Australian soldiers", said Andy Alcock, CIET information officer.

MELBOURNE — Richmond Secondary College has gained a reprieve to continue negotiations. The reprieve came after a November 11 deadline passed with the occupiers and Education Department officials at a stand-off. The occupation committee, fearing that police would be called in to evict occupiers, mobilised 250 supporters. The show of strength convinced Education officials that negotiations should continue.
