HOBART — Five hundred people rallied to stop logging in old growth forests on April 20. Built at short notice, the sizeable turnout reflected the considerable activism in defence of the forests in recent months. In addition to previously formed "Doctors for the Forests", "Students for the Forests" and "Artists for the Forests" have recently formed.

Activists will be blockading Forestry Tasmania as part of the M1/May Day global justice protests [See listing in Activist Calendar for full details.]
