3CR: Help to keep an alternative voice on the air

January 11, 2007
Issue

Last year marked the 30th anniversary of 3CR, a community radio station established to provide a voice for those denied access to the mass media, particularly the working class, women, Indigenous people and the many community groups discriminated against in and by the mass media. Unlike almost all other media organisations in Australia, 3CR is genuinely owned by the community — by the groups and individuals who broadcast, and by the people who listen to the station.

You can help 3CR's great work by picking up a copy of the Seeds of Dissent 2007! calendar, sales of which help fund the station. The beautifully designed calendar profiles 12 campaigns that changed — and are still changing — Australia. These include the campaign for equal pay for women, the 1910 fight against conscription, the Gurindji strike in the Northern Territory in the 1960s and '70s, and Buga-Up!'s 1980s anti-smoking campaign. The calendar features radical historical dates for each day of the year, photographs from the lens of Australian activists and activist days such as Survival Day, World Refugee Day and No Pants Day!

The calendar is available for $20 plus postage. It can be bought from 3CR at 21 Smith Street, Fitzroy or post a cheque or money order payable to 3CR to PO Box 1277 Collingwood 3066. Add $6 for postage for one or two calendars or $8 for three or more. Alternatively, you can pay by credit card — phone (03) 9419 8377 between 9am and 6pm, Monday-Friday.
