Why
On Saturday night police raided queer bars on Oxford Street. Stripping, bullying and harassing patrons.
Just three months after they did the same. An internal inquiry into the Saturday June 13 raids found no significant wrongdoing doing and called, again, for some mild re-training.
This latest police raid is no surprise.
After countless retraining recommendations from many inquires, reports and court cases in our favour, police are still strip searching young people and queers at music festivals. They’re beating up peaceful protesters and targeting and harassing First Nations, disabled and LGBTQIA+ peoples.
They attack our safe spaces. They try to push us out of the areas our community fought so hard to make what they are today.
They’re being ordered to strip search - which is sexual assault - to belittle and harass queers.
By the state ALP Minns government who’ve decided to ratchet up their harassment of the LGBTIQA+ community.
To placate right wing One Nation voters and keep the rainbow community scared and fearful.
We are sick and tired of it. Join us on Sunday September 20, 12-2pm at Taylor Square to demand:
- Stop police attacks on queers women and blacks.
- Cops out of our bars and community spaces.
- Independent investigation now.
- End police investigating police.
- Compensation for victims of police assault and harassment on Saturday June 13 and on Saturday September 12.
