Join us for a fascinating evening exploring the history hidden beneath Link Road Forest and the surrounding Wallsend area. While today we see a beautiful native forest above ground, the landscape also holds a rich and complex history of coal mining, underground workings and transport.
Local historian Ed Tonks will draw on his extensive knowledge of Wallsend, coal mining and the local tramway to reveal some of the stories beneath our feet. His one-hour presentation will offer a rare opportunity to learn more about the forces that shaped this area and to see the landscape from an entirely different perspective.
The talk will be held at 6.30 pm on Thursday 24 September 2026 at Edgeworth Community Hall, 1 Minmi Road, Edgeworth.
Understanding Link Road Forest means appreciating not only the wildlife, plants and natural beauty we can see today, but also the layers of local history beneath the surface. We hope you can join us for this special community event.
The event is free but we always welcome donations for the campaign to keep some of the beautiful forest in our region for the community to enjoy.
