Why

What are Australia's international legal obligations under international law relating to Palestine and Israel?

Chris Sidoti esteemed human rights lawyer, advocate and investigator will explore the nature of these obligations focusing in particular on the Geneva Conventions and the Genocide Convention and propose specific practical steps the Australian Government needs to take pursuant to those obligations.

Tickets available from Trybooking.

Facilitating the conversation will be Cathy Peters, a long-time advocate for Palestinian rights. She's been an ABC producer and a Greens councillor on the former Marrickville Council. In 2014 she co-founded PSNA / BDS Australia. She has written and produced articles and programs which look at the injustices faced by Palestinians under the Israeli regime.

Since July 2021, Chris Sidoti, has been a Commissioner on the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel. He is also a member of the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar and was a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Independent International Fact Finding Mission on Myanmar from 2017 to 2019. He currently works from Sydney, Australia.

I have spent the past five years collecting evidence of grave violations of international law in Gaza and the West Bank. All states, including Australia, must respond to these atrocities.
