Why
The South Australian Labor government is planning a huge expansion of the state’s AI data centre industry, with a new $10-billion, 800MW AI data centre planned for the locality of Bundey, 165 kilometres northeast of Kaurna Yerta /Adelaide. Concerns about the centre’s excessive usage of water from the River Murray are being disregarded, along with other negative environmental impacts.
Meanwhile AI data centres are being rolled out at scale across Australia, pushed by big tech corporations who want to make massive profits at the expense of the environment and communities.
For an in-depth discussion about AI data centres, please come along to our next branch meeting, held this coming Monday 10 August at 6pm in the Activist Centre. A Zoom option is available if you can’t make it in person. Current and prospective members can contact Markela on 0404 126 154 or [email protected] for the link.
Ahead of the meeting, comrades might be interested in reading Renfrey Clarke’s Green Left article on data centres, the statement on AI Data Centres by Victorian branches of Socialist Alliance, and this article by Rezgar Akrawi in LINKS.
