Why
Justice Not Jail and Snap Media are hosting a writing session to help people prepare submissions to the parliamentary scrutiny committee on the proposed changes to child removal laws in the NT.
Any one can submit but there are a few things the scrutiny committee
will want information about.
Expert analysis of the amendments and their functionality.
Families that this will affect.
Specific parts of the bill that will have community or service implications in practice.
The repeals focus on:
- introducing “family responsibility” agreements and court orders
- replacing the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle with a weakened version
- increasing the emphasis on permanency and long-term care orders
- removing judicial discretion on a case-by-case basis
- Children and parents to be reunified within two years after removal.
All you need to do is bring your notes and something to write on to ECNT Nightcliff on Tuesday night.
People will help you shape it into a submission.
