Why
Sydney Anti-AUKUS Coalition has called this protest to amplify peace and anti-war voices demanding the Australian Labor government pull back from its support for Israel and the United States’ illegal strikes on Iran and to push for the US and Israel to halt all military action.
The expansion of the war into Lebanon and the Gulf states shows how reckless disregard for international law leads to disaster.
Australia’s support for AUKUS and its hosting of US bases helps fuel war, instead of dialogue and diplomacy.
An independent and peaceful foreign policy is the best way to be able to help the Iranian people decide on their future government.
If your organisation would like to endorse the protest, please message SAAC on Facebook or Instagram, or email [email protected], or call one of the phone numbers below.

SAAC statement March 3, 2026
Sydney Anti-AUKUS Coalition (SAAC) calls on the Australian Labor government to pull back from its support for Israel and the United States’ illegal strikes on Iran and push for the US and Israel to halt all military action.
The expansion of the war into Lebanon and the Gulf states shows how reckless disregard for international law leads to disaster.
The US and Israel have justified their attacks because of the nuclear threat, but their real aim is regime change and regional domination. Reports of civilian casualities, including school children, are deeply concerning.
Neither the US or Israel support national self-determination for the Iranian or Palestinian people.
No amount of alleged support for the Iranian people’s struggle justifies breaking international law; it promotes the idea that might is right and international laws and agreements on sovereignty are meaningless.
SAAC is also very concerned that Australia is now complicit in this illegal war by allowing the Pine Gap spy base and all other US military assets to facilitate these illegal air strikes.
The US-led war and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan at the beginning of the century was also about regime change and plunder of resources; that led to millions of innocent people being killed, the creation of terror groups and countries’ infrastructure destroyed and privatised for Western corporate interests.
As we have repeatedly warned, Australia’s support for AUKUS and the Force Posture Agreement helps fuel war, instead of dialogue and diplomacy.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza, supported by the US, shows that they have zero interest in Iranians being able to decide their future government. The history of US and British meddling in Iran is also testament to this.
We call for AUKUS and the Force Posture Agreement (FPA) to be scrapped and demand the Labor government sign and ratify the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). Further we call on the government to review the alliance with the US which is the overall framework for AUKUS and the FPA.
An independent and peaceful foreign policy is the best way to be able to help the Iranian people decide on their future government
