Why

SAGE is a community for all folks who love and care for our planet. Our monthly gatherings are a space to nourish each other, so that we can nourish our world.

Join us for an evening of delicious food, hearty discussion and new skills. The night will start with a shared meal, then we will move into community announcements, then into open space workshops, with lots of space for social breaks throughout.

The climate crisis is increasing extreme weather events - but the impacts aren’t felt equally. So how do we keep ourselves and each other safe?

This month’s theme is “It’s Getting Hot in Here”. We’re lucky to be hosting a community-organised line-up of speakers from the Anti-Poverty Network, Doctors for the Environment and Better Renting to explore how heatwaves and other extreme weather disproportionately impact low-income, renting and marginalised communities - and how policy decisions shape who bears the brunt.

We’ll talk about what this looks like on the ground: unaffordable power bills, unsafe housing, limited access to cooling, and barriers to emergency support. But we’ll also focus on what we can actually do - from checking in on neighbours and building mutual aid networks, to pushing for better public infrastructure and renter protections.

The SAGE Spark Grant committee will also host a session on the deep wellness of our activist ecosystem, helping shape upcoming wellbeing-focused grant rounds. They’re especially keen to hear from both seasoned organisers with insight into current community needs, and newer folk who are curious, fresh, or just getting involved.

And as always, SAGE runs on open space! Anyone can bring a session - related to the theme or completely different. If there’s something you’re burning to talk about, this is your invitation.

The night will start with a shared meal, then we will move into community announcements, then into the open space workshops, with lots of space for social breaks throughout.
