Kurds and their supporters rallied at Sydney Town Hall Square on July 23 to join global protests over the "canceling" of Kurdistan in Treaty of Lausanne, 100 years ago.
This treaty, which was signed by representatives of by colonial powers Britain, France, Italy and Japan, as well as Turkey, Greece, Romania, and the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes on July 24, 1923, divided Kurdistan into four.
As a result the Kurds have been denied a national of their own and have been subjected to a decade of repression and genocide.
The rally was addressed by Brusk Aiveri from the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre (NSW), former Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon, Reverend Bill Crews from Ashfield Uniting Church, former Greens NSW MP Jamie Parker, independent Kurdish journalist Mansour Razaghi, Peter Boyle from Rojava Solidarity Sydney and Baran Sogut from the Sydney Kurdish Youth Alliance.
