The 157th anniversary of the birth of Cuban hero and independence fighter Jose Marti was celebrated on January 29 at an event organised by the Consulate General of Cuba.

Around 50 people gathered in the Plaza Iberoamericana to pay tribute to Marti's writings and lifelong struggle for freedom from colonial oppression for Cuba and the whole of Latin America.

As Latin America Social Forum representative Victor Hugo Munoz told the participants, Marti's ideas and struggle do not merely survive, but are gaining strength as a tide of anti-imperialist resistance sweeps Latin America today.
