Filmmaker and author John Pilger spoke to his 2002 documentary Palestine is still the issue at the Maritime Union of Australia’s (MUA) offices on May 27.

The event was organised by Green Left and the Maritime Union Australia Sydney branch.

The 2002 film was based on his original 1977 documentary which looks at the origins of Israel’s current bombing of Gaza and the nature of the colonial settler state of Israel.

In the discussion afterwards, which included Ophelia Haragli from the Palestinian Action Group and Paul Keating, MUA Sydney branch secretary, Pilger recalled his time as a journalist in South Africa, comparing Israel’s occupation and its terror state to the brutal apartheid regime.
