International speakers at July conference

By Sean Malloy

A range of international guest speakers will be a feature of the 21st national conference of Resistance, to be held in Melbourne July 4-6.

Speaking from the Indonesian National Youth Front will be Helmi Fauzi, who has recently arrived in Australia from Europe, where he toured and spoke at a UN conference on East Timor.

Matt McCarten, president of the New Zealand NewLabour party, will be speaking about the political situation in New Zealand and the development of an electoral alliance which is challenging both government and opposition in the polls.

Green Left Weekly correspondent Renfrey Clarke will be speaking at the conference about the politics in the former Soviet bloc. Renfrey, based in Moscow, writes regularly for Green Left about developments in that region.

The conference will discuss issues such as the environment, democratic rights, women's liberation and sexuality and censorship.
