A Dangerous Man

[A tribute to Siegfried Sassoon — antiwar poet. ]
Sassoon was a man,
A dangerous man,
Sassoon was a dangerous man.
He went off to a war
And went back for more
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
And after this war
He settled his score
Sassoon, the dangerous man,
He spoke of the blokes
Shot and gas-choked
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
His words stung deep
For the blokes on the street
Sassoon, the dangerous man,
His words spoke of deeds
And mates dying in need
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
His tongue held true
All the leaders who knew
Sassoon, the dangerous man,
He lunged at the lies
For the men who had died
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
He spoke of a war
That killed the world's poor
Sassoon, the dangerous man,
And the few filling their greed
And the men dying in need
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
He shook the white collars
With words of deep bother
Sassoon, the dangerous man,
The leaders now richer
The workers now poorer
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
Sassoon was a man,
A dangerous man,
Sassoon was a dangerous man.
And upon his return
His stomach still churned,
Sassoon, what a dangerous man!
