Why

Join us for a community screening of Floodland, followed by a community discussion exploring our region’s preparedness, what systems and supports are currently in place, where there are opportunities for improvement, and what community-led resilience looks like in the Margaret River region.

Floodland is a powerful documentary exploring community resilience and grassroots responses to climate-driven disasters, centred on the 2022 floods in Lismore and the recovery that followed.

Through intimate storytelling, the film explores the emotional and psychological impacts of disaster, while highlighting how communities come together to process, support one another, and rebuild. It also opens up important conversations about preparedness, collective action, and the role of community-led responses in times of crisis.

Highlighting First Nations healing practices and community-led solutions that are vital for Australia’s future, this event invites reflection on how we respond to and recover from climate-driven disasters.

Following the screening, we will facilitate a community discussion exploring community preparedness in the context of the Margaret River region.

This event is an opportunity to come together as a community to reflect on local preparedness, share knowledge, and explore how we can strengthen connection and resilience in the face of increasing climate-related challenges.
