Why
Critical Mass this month rides in support of active transport infrastructure in Moonee Valley and public housing in Flemington!
400m. That's how much fully protected on-road bike lanes Moonee Valley has. Meanwhile, key routes connecting Moonee Valley to Maribyrnong and Merri-bek remain unbuilt, and our own counts on local roads consistently show ~90% male riders. The women in our community are voting with their wheels by staying off them. Ride with us at Critical Mass. Let's change that!
Public housing is under attack. The ALP state government plans to demolish all 44 public towers across Melbourne and privatise the provision of housing to the most vulnerable in our society by gifting public land to developers. In the middle of a housing crisis, housing should be a human right, not a profit making enterprise for corporate pockets.
We'll be riding from 5.30pm, State Library, Swanston Street with three pick-up points:
- 5.50-6pm approx: corner Chetwynd Street & Queensberry Street, North Melbourne.
- 6.15pm approx: corner Stubbs Street & Racecourse Road, Flemington, riding into Flemington estate for two speeches from organisers & residents.
- 6.40pm approx: corner Pin Oak Crescent & Kent Street, Flemington.
Our destination is Moonee Valley Council offices for speeches then nearby establishment for a meal & drinks.
Running late or want to join? Follow the ride with Critical Maps.
Returning to the city? Moonee Ponds station at Margaret/Hall Street.
Post ride: create a mini mass with your new friends and ask around who's riding to Maribyrnong, Merribek, Darebin, Yarra etc.
