Why
Join us for one or both snap actions to object to the restrictions on protest in the Public Order Legislation Amendment Bill 2026. The committee report on this bill is due Thursday, 18 June and we want to send a clear message that the restrictions are not acceptable.
- Bin Action: 8:30am-9:30am
- The Suffragettes & Friends: 10am-11am
The bill drastically expands the police powers, enabling refusal of permits where they believe the event might cause 'animosity towards or harassment of' specific groups such as those of a certain ethno-religious origin. The police will gain the power to suddenly cancel existing protest permits based on 'new information' without organisers having the rights to know what this information is or be given a chance to respond.
The wearing of masks and face covering will also be criminalised without exceptions for non-violent political expression.
