Why
Will AUKUS keep us safe – at what cost?
In 2021, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States announced the AUKUS partnership. A central element of this agreement is Australia's plan to acquire up to eight nuclear-powered submarines at an estimated cost of $368+ billion over 30 years — announced without prior public consultation or a parliamentary vote.
The Australian Peace and Security Forum is auspicing an independent Public Inquiry into AUKUS, led by:

There are several hearings planned around Australia. This is to register for the Fremantle, WA public hearing on Monday, 29 June.
The hearing will be split in two sessions. The first will run from 10am to 5 pm, with the evening session commencing 6.30pm to 8.30pm. It will be held at Notre Dame University, Building ND46, on the corner of Phillimore St and Henry St, Fremantle. All are welcome to attend and observe.
The hearing will feature presentations from key experts and concerned citizens, and will hear from invited presenters who have made submissions to the Inquiry. Commissioners will ask questions and engage with the evidence presented.
If you would like to be considered as a presenter at this or any other hearing, a written, video, or audio submission is strongly advised via our submission form.
Capacity to present a brief 5-minute submission on the day is limited. Please note that expressing your interest to do so is not guaranteed and is subject to time and availability on the day.
