Why
We have organised a rally this Saturday, 14 February at 3:00 PM in front of the State Library under the banner: “Freedom for Öcalan, Status for Rojava.”
15 February marks the anniversary of the international conspiracy that led to Mr. Abdullah Öcalan’s Kidnnaping in Nairobi, Kenya in 1999, while he was traveling to South Africa to meet Nelson Mandela. Each year, rallies and events are held around the world to mark this important date and to call for justice.
Rojava, inspired by Mr. Öcalan’s principles of democratic confederalism, women’s empowerment, ecology, coexistence, equality, and freedom, stands today as a powerful symbol of these values. However, these achievements and ideals continue to face serious challenges due to ongoing hostility, betrayal, and the legitimisation of Turkish-backed ISIS and other jihadist groups in Syria. Rojava remains under siege.
As part of this global day of action, our Federation has organised rallies in both Sydney and Melbourne.
As friends of the Kurdish people, your presence and solidarity would be greatly appreciated. We hope you can join us and stand together in support of freedom, justice, and peace.
