Why
Newcastle! You’re invited to help us launch the 'Big Swiftie' build and find out how you can be involved in the making of a giant, colourful, collaborative Swift Parrot sculpture over two weeks here on Awabakal/Worimi Country.
Join us at the Reclaimed Commons for the launch to connect with artists Fiona Lee, Ross Brown and Jo Lynch, hear coal project updates, share food and learn about the Big Swifties’ flight plan across NSW.
Whitehaven Coal is proposing to expand their massive Maules Creek coal mine in North-West NSW on Gomeroi Country, and clear hundreds of hectares of critically endangered habitat for the Swift Parrot - symbol of regional community resistance to the destruction of Whitehaven's coal mining and expansion plans.
This is a fun, family-friendly event, no experience necessary and all welcome!
RSVP to join us at The Big Swiftie Community Launch Day!
