Why
Tomorrow morning (Tuesday 9 December), join us outside the Adelaide ABC building to demand SBS withdraw from broadcasting the Eurovision Song Contest, and urge them to join the global campaign opposing Israel’s genocide of Palestine.

In the wake of the announcement that Israel has been cleared to compete in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest — despite the competition excluding Russia in 2022 due to their invasion of Ukraine — four nations have withdrawn, and audiences worldwide are calling a boycott in solidarity with Palestine.
SBS states that it “is passionate about understanding our audiences’ needs,” “doesn’t tolerate inequality,” “doesn’t accept the status quo,” and “holds each other to account.” Broadcasting this competition — without firmly opposing genocide, refusing to boycott platforms that enable genocidal states, or showing solidarity with the people of Palestine — stands in conflict with those values.
Our demands
- We call upon the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to disqualify Israel from Eurovision until it ceases all violations of international law and human rights, and complies with all relevant UN resolutions and World Court rulings
- Immediately withdraw Australia’s participation in Eurovision, joining the broadcasters of Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain
- SBS to withdraw their decision to broadcast Eurovision in alignment with their values
We acknowledge this rally is taking place on the stolen, unceded land of the Kaurna people. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present. It always was and always will be Aboriginal land. To stand in solidarity with Palestine, we must acknowledge Australia’s own (and ongoing) colonial history.
