Why
In just over 12 months since PACOA has achieved much and what a year it has been. Thanks to your energy, skills and persistence, we’ve built a strong, active and respected community voice.
Our Achievements This Year
- A well-attended community meeting at St Bede’s with 150+ locals present.
- Meetings with Federal and State MPs Mark Butler and Susan Close.
- Media appearances across radio, 7.30 Report, and print.
- A highly successful Twilight film presentation (Pine Gap) with the filmmaker.
- Leafletting at public events along the foreshore.
- Active participation in the drop-in sessions, town hall meeting and the submission process run by Australia Naval Infrastructure (ANI).
- A concert at the Semaphore Workers Club which drew around 200 people.
- A community rally at the Osborne Community Centre, opened with a local Kaurna smoking ceremony.
- Ongoing liaison and cooperation with anti-AUKUS groups including Wollongong Against War and Nukes, Stop AUKUS WA, and the Independent Peaceful Australia Network nationally.
This is an enormous amount of work for a small, volunteer-driven community group — and we should all feel proud.
Looking Ahead
There’s so much more to be done. After a short rest, we’ll be gearing up for a busy year ahead, including plans for a State Election candidates forum in Feb/ March.
We need your ideas, your input, and your participation. PACOA is strongest when our community shapes the direction.
Attached you’ll find PACOA’s recent submission to the ANI consultation.
We look forward to seeing you next Friday for a relaxed catch-up and a chance to celebrate our collective efforts.
Warm regards,
PACOA Coordinating Group
