Court solidarity against Zionist 'lawfare' on pro-Palestinian academics

Why

Nick Riemer and John Keane are academics at the University of Sydney and long-time advocates of freedom and justice for Palestinians. They are being sued in the Federal Court of Australia because their opponents claim that their statements and actions opposing Zionism – the commitment to an exclusivist Jewish ethnostate in historic Palestine – are actually antisemitic hate speech.

The case is important because it will be the first to explicitly test whether Zionism should count as a protected identity under Australian law, with serious consequences for everyone who criticises Israel. A significant two-day hearing will start on Monday October 13.

Join us outside the court building in Queens Square, at the top of Macquarie St, for this solidarity demonstration to support John and Nick and to say that criticising Israel, Zionism and genocide is not antisemitic.
