Why

The She Matters Stop Killing Women rally has been confirmed for Magan-djin/Brisbane which is one of many being held across the country on Saturday, March 15.

The rallies will bring attention to Australia's femicide epidemic, while calling for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and Premier David Crisafulli to roll out meaningful budgetary measures, policy, legal changes and action to end violence against women in our country.

Each rally will commemorate the 117 women killed since January 1, 2024.

As I write, 14 women have been killed this year and 102 women were lost last year.

Why these locations?

The Brisbane Magistrates Courthouse hears cases of Family Court and Domestic violence so we meet on the green in an effort to reclaim the space as one of safety, power and to demand change. From there, we will march to the Queensland Police Head Quarters on Roma Street to highlight their crucial role, influence and necessary action to achieve DV reform and femicide prevention. The final leg of our march will be to King George Square.

This national protest aims to put pressure on every political party and candidate as we head into this year’s election.

We need to end domestic violence, stranger violence, associate violence, femicide, murder, sexual assault, sexual harassment and misogyny.

The rallies are organised and funded by Australian Femicide Watch and The RED HEART Campaign. They are community driven and coordinated and staffed by an incredible group of women who are giving their time freely.
